Definition: Fragrances and Essential Oils are substances or mixtures used to impart scent or flavor, commonly incorporated into cosmetics, detergents, candles, or other consumer products. They include essential oils (e.g., lavender oil), synthetic fragrances, and aromatic compounds.
EU Regulations:
Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 (Cosmetics Regulation): Applies when used in cosmetics, requiring safety assessments and compliance with allergen declarations (e.g., 26 allergenic fragrance substances listed in Annex III).
Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 (REACH): Governs the registration, evaluation, authorization, and restriction of chemical substances used in fragrances and essential oils, ensuring safety and environmental compliance.
Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 (CLP Regulation): Requires classification, labeling, and packaging of fragrances and essential oils if they are hazardous (e.g., in detergents or candles).
Key Requirements: Safety assessments for cosmetic use, REACH registration for substances exceeding 1 tonne/year, CLP-compliant labeling, and adherence to restricted substance lists (e.g., Annex II of Cosmetics Regulation, REACH Annex XVII).
Our Role: We provide comprehensive regulatory support, including REACH registration, safety assessments, allergen labeling guidance, and CLP compliance to ensure market readiness for fragrances and essential oils.
